Saving custom layouts

Saving Custom Layouts

Once you've meticulously arranged your Blender windows and panels to create the perfect workspace, it's essential to save your custom layout so you can easily access it in the future. Blender provides two convenient ways to save and manage your layouts:

1. Save Startup File

Permanent Default: This option saves your current layout as the default layout that will load every time you open Blender.

Steps:

Arrange your windows and panels as desired.

Go to the top menu and select "File" > "Save Startup File."

Blender will confirm that the startup file has been saved.

2. New UI

Multiple Layouts: This option allows you to create and save multiple custom layouts, each tailored to specific tasks or workflows. You can easily switch between these layouts as needed.

Steps:

Arrange your windows and panels for a specific layout.

Go to the top menu and select "File" > "New UI."

A new layout will be created with the current arrangement.

To switch between layouts, click the "+" button next to the editor type icon in any window.

To save a specific layout, select it from the list and then go to "File" > "Save UI."

Tips

Naming Conventions: Give your custom layouts descriptive names (e.g., "Modeling," "Animation," "Texturing") to easily identify them.

Organization: If you create multiple layouts, consider organizing them into categories or folders for better management.

Sharing: You can share your custom layouts with others by exporting them as .blend files.

Example

Imagine you've created a layout optimized for modeling tasks, with a large 3D Viewport, the Properties panel readily available, and the Outliner conveniently placed.

Arrange your windows and panels for modeling.

Go to "File" > "New UI."

Name the new layout "Modeling."

Switch to a different layout (e.g., the default layout) if needed.

Click the "+" button and select "Modeling" to return to your custom layout.

Remember:

Efficiency: Saving custom layouts streamlines your workflow by providing quick access to the tools and panels you need for specific tasks.

Comfort: A personalized workspace can enhance your focus and creativity, allowing you to work more efficiently and comfortably.

Experimentation: Don't hesitate to create and experiment with different layouts to find what works best for you.

By saving and managing your custom layouts, you'll transform Blender into a truly personalized 3D creation environment that empowers you to bring your ideas to life with ease and efficiency.
